To all parishioners (past and present) at St. Angela Merici, Brea:
Many parishioners have contacted me asking for some help or action to let Bishop Brown know of your observations, complaints, commendations, comments and petitions. We wrote an email to Fr. Michael Dwight Galinada and cc: Msgr. Tuan Joseph Pham (Secretary to the Bishop/Director of Clergy Personnel), Msgr. Michael Heher (Moderator of the Curia) and bcc: Bishop Tod Brown.
Pope Benedict writes in his Letter Proclaiming this year for Priests"There are also, sad to say, situations which can never be sufficiently deplored where the Church herself suffers as a consequence of infidelity on the part of some of her ministers. Then it is the world which finds grounds for scandal and rejection. What is most helpful to the Church in such cases is not only a frank and complete acknowledgment of the weaknesses of her ministers, but also a joyful and renewed realization of the greatness of God’s gift, embodied in the splendid example of generous pastors, religious afire with love for God and for souls, and insightful, patient spiritual guides".
Do you know a priest or deacon in need of help? Priests and deacons who fear they cannot be adequately represented by diocesan canon lawyers can now turn to a canon lawyer referral program called Justice for Priests and Deacons.

PRAYER FOR SOLDIERS
From Susan Chewens Tuesday 08/01/2006 5:44 PM Chester, NY
“My son, Zach Barrett, will be leaving for Iraq in 3 weeks. He will be leaving for Iraq on his 21st birthday. I started searching for the Psalms and then for prayers for soldiers and came upon your site. I want to find some prayers to say to channel my fear and worry into something good for my son and me.”
Reply from Fr. Joe Nguyen 08/25/2006 9:33 PM
Please send this prayer to Susan and tell her that this is a prayer that Father Joe proposes to there so that she can pray for her son daily. “All-powerful and ever-living God, when Abraham left his own land and departed from his own people, you kept him safe all through his journey. Protect my son, who is also your servant: walk by his side step to help him; be his companion and his strength on the road and his refuge in every adversity. Lead him, O Lord, so that he will complete his tour of duty safely and happily return to our home. I ask this through Christ, My Lord.”
And I would like to bless him with this prayer: “May God bless you with every heavenly blessing and give you a safe journey. Wherever life leads you, may you find him there to protect you. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.”

Healing Lord, during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Saint Angela experienced a major devastation; she became blind. Yet she insisted on continuing the pilgrimage with devotion and enthusiasm. In my journey through this world, and in the journeys of everyone I know—especially the handicapped and disabled—help us to continue onward when adversities hit. Renew our zeal for spiritual growth. You restored Saint Angela’s sight; teach us to know that Your healing love is with us even when we don't get the cures we want. Use everything to bring us closer to You. Saint Angela, pray for us. Amen.
We must give alms. Charity wins souls and draws them to virtue.
Saint Angela Merici
As our Savior says: “A good tree is not able to produce bad fruit.”
He says: A good tree, that is, a good heart as well as a soul on fire with charity, can do nothing but good and holy works. For this reason Saint Augustine said: “Love, and do what you will,” namely, possess love and charity and then do what you will. It is as if he had said: Charity is not able to sin.
Mothers of children, even if they have a thousand, carry each and every one fixed in their hearts, and because of the strength of their love they do not forget any of them. In fact, it seems that the more children they have the more their love and care for each one is increased.
Be sincerely kind to every one according to the words of our Lord: “Learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” Thus you are imitating God, of whom it is said: “He has disposed all things pleasantly.” And again Jesus said: “My yoke is easy and my burden light.”
From Spiritual Testament by Saint Angela Merici
If according to times and needs you should be obliged to make fresh rules and change current things, do it with prudence and good advice.
