This is where you'll find information on the latest additions to this site.

[---]

April 3, 2001: Our new Other Visions is, belatedly, online.  Historically, recreational activities have played an important role in every culture. Specialists in the field of Recreation tell us that this is where we "fine tune" our social and survival skills in a safe, non-threatening environment. Sue Wiygul Martin tells us of her experience in "I Was Rehabilitated".

Also, our Guestbook is back online, but so far it is still referencing our previous web address. We will be moving it to our new domain and soon as possible.

New books have been added to Recommended Reading as well.

February 21, 2001: We now have our own domain name!!! Travel-vision.org (don't forget that hyphen!). Let us know if you find any leftover links that still refer to "http://members.dslextreme.com/users/caseytcook/". Our opening page has a new "hit counter" on it, counting the number of times someone accessed it. That had to be started over at zero, so we are over 13,000 hits behind! Other related website info, our Guestbook is still not functioning. HTMLGear promises it will be working soon, but if you know of any guestbook provider that you like, please let me know.

February 14, 2001: February's Other Visions is another story in the "Tom Brennan" series that we thought was appropriate now that the holidays are over. Tired of sentimental stories about the holidays? And a Merry Christmas to You, Too is for you.

January 23, 2001: This month's Other Visions is another story from Tom Brennan, Your Serve. This one is more in keeping with his frightening Halloween story, showcasing Tom's...well, rather offbeat sense of humor. While we really enjoy his antics, we are somewhat relieved that he lives in another part of the country.

December 24, 2000: Added a few Resources. Added the Directory of Agencies Serving the Blind, The Talking Laser Cane, Travel Instruction for People with Disabilities to Professional Info; and BRYTECH Inc., makers of talking and tactile money identifiers to Adaptive Equipment.

December 2000: Other Visions offers you two articles for the price of one! First, we're bringing you another in the "Tom Brennan Series." Unlike last month's funny but ghoulish story, Nice Puppy is a simple heart-warming tale of success about a boy and his dog. Then, in keeping with the season, some Gift Ideas. Happy Holidays!

November 27, 2000: As should be only too obvious by now, there was no November Other Visions commentary. This was due to a combination of unavoidable events, notably an illness in the family. Other Visions is normally published around the middle of the month, and we fully intend to have a December issue ready shortly. In fact, we expect to have a special double issue for the holiday season! Stay tuned...

October 15, 2000: This month's Other Visions is a  little not-for-the-squeamish Halloween story called "Lights Out, Everybody." While befitting of the season, we strongly recommend that you don't try this at home!

September 17, 2000: Yes, But Doctor...???, our latest Other Visions, relates the author's experience of bilateral eneucleation (removal of both eyes) that was, he says, far more traumatic than it needed to be.

August 19, 2000: Australia Travel Log, Part 3, the final installment of Jenine Stanley's trip, features a few guide dog ups and downs in the new Other Visions.

July 16, 2000: Part two of Jenine Stanley's trip to Australia focuses on the native wildlife in this edition of Other Visions.

June 26, 2000: Added a bucketful of new Resources! Added Clarity Solutions, sources for Diamond Eye Needles, and sources for Talking Compasses and Globes to Adaptive Equipment. Added Large Print Book Publishers and The National Clearinghouse on Children Who are Deaf/Blind to Books and Periodicals. Added Hear-A-Story to Computer Technology. To Health & Beauty we've added a link to the Charles Retina Institute, tips for improving your balance, the Smile Gourmet and the Sugarfree Kitchen. Added the Fishbourne Embosser, Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators, and tips for teaching signature writing to O&M Professional Info. There are new links in Recommended Reading, Web Resources and Tidbits that are worth checking out. Also, "The Lowdown on Low Vision" has been updated.

June 17, 2000: This month's Other Visions recounts Jenine Stanley's trip to Australia to present a professional paper at a conference. "The Australia Travel Log, Part 1" was originally sent to members of the Buddy-l e-mail list for guide dog handlers.

May 15, 2000: "Hawaii Travel Log, Part 2" continues the Other Visions story of Jenine Stanley's trip to Hawaii, along with her husband Kent, and their golden retrievers Toby and PW Drummer. Stanley, president of the Guide Dog Users Inc., helped open Hawaii's doors to all blind people who couldn't visit because of the four-month quarantine law for guide dogs.

April 11, 2000: "Hawaii Travel Log" has been added to Other Visions. The log was written by Jenine Stanley for members of the Buddy-L e-mail list, a list for guide dog handlers and friends. Her trip to Hawaii was a result of much hard work from Guide Dog Users Inc. (GDUI) to allow an exemption for guide dogs from the state's quarantine laws.

March 17, 2000: Added a handful of links to the Resources pages, including (but not limited to) Braille Jewelry in Just For Fun; Anatomical Dolls and Cane Mittens to Professional Info; National Touch Reading Day and Barbara's Crocheted Cane Glove to Tidbits; the Diabetes Center to Health; and Fred's Head to Web Resources; The Center for Accessible Technology  to Computer Technology.

Other Visions is on hiatus at the moment. But please feel free to submit articles for our ezine. Your participation is very important to us!

January 7, 2000: Well, it should be obvious by now that Other Visions took the holidays off.

January 1, 2000: Happy New Year to all! We hope all goes well for you and yours in 2000. This month's Other Visions will be a bit delayed due to the holidays. Thanks for understanding. As always, we appreciate your interest.

December 2, 1999: This month's Other Visions is Kathleen Prime's marvelous view of a journey to Ethiopia, "I'melkam guzo": In other words, have a great trip!. Enjoy!

November 1, 1999: And now for something completely different...Not For Everyone, this month's Other Visions, a new perspective on social nudism. The author, Brian Langlois, is a 45-year-old native of Massachusetts. He had a choroidal hemorrhage in 1975 that resulted in complete and sudden vision loss. He and his wife became nudists in 1982.

October 1, 1999: Other Visions is online with David & Goliath? The players: Children at a school for the partially sighted in the 1950s. The scene: The Annual Special Schools sports competition. Can the partially sighted children pull off a "Rocky"-like victory?

September 17, 1999: Added a few resources, especially on the O&M Professional Info page. See the Resources for updates!

September-1-1999: This month’s Other Visions, Tahoe Speaks, was written by "Tahoe" Johnson, guide dog for Teresa "Tee" Johnson. Tee is his first human and they have been together for only a few months.

August-1-1999: This month's Other Visions, A Day in the Life of the Wife of a Man (Who Just Happens to be Totally Blind) by Judi Piscitello, is a wonderful account of married life with a blind man. Judi is certified as a teacher of students with visual impairments and an orientation and mobility specialist, employed at the New York State Resource Center for the Visually Impaired as an Assistant in the Training of Special Educators.

July-3-1999: A little late due to some hardware problems, but Other Visions is online with the provocative "The Culture of Blindness."

June-1-1999: Due to popular demand, we have added a message board Forum where you can comment on what you've read in Other Visions eZine. Enjoy!

May-31-1999: This month's Other Visions, The Language and Voices of Juan and Alexi is an insightful story of being a bilingual Orientation and Mobility instructor.

May-23-1999: Added dozens of great new links to Resources, which are marked "Updated" and "New." Also, stop by our Tidbits page for info on Braille FONcards; and our Just For Fun page now includes "What To Do When You Meet a Sighted Person."

May-2-1999: Our new Other Visions focuses on Braille: when should it be taught to children with low vision? Jody Ianuzzi explores the subject in "Braille Literacy in America: A Student's View."

April-4-1999: We've added some links (in many categories) to Resources today, and we now have a new section for "Computer Technology." Besides the serious stuff, check out the "printable grocery list" in Tidbits. From now on,  the most recently added links will be marked with a New! graphic.

April-2-1999: A little late, due to my webmaster's busy schedule and illness, our April commentary, "The Little Miracle of Villa Tarranto" is online in Other Visions.

March-1-1999: Added "Right Place, Wrong Time" by Nicole Mason, our Other Visions centerpiece about the importance of extra care when adjusting.

February-15-1999: Added "Customize Your Cane" by Jody Ianuzzi, linked on the home and About O&M pages.

January-31-1999: Added this month's Other Visions eZine: "Judo, The Ultimate Alternative Technique" by Jody Ianuzzi. Your editor is an avid walker. Too bad Jody lives so far away…she would make the perfect walking companion! Also, be sure to see her "Tips for staying safe".

January-16-1999: Added Paul Henrichsen's Home Page to Web Resources/Accesibility. Lots of info on computer use for the blind. Also added the Karolinska Institute, with lots of links on Eye Diseases; and The National Federation of the Blind, St. Joseph Missouri Chapter to Consumer Information.

January-8-1999: Added several new vendors for Adaptive Equipment to our Resources: Ann Morris Enterprises, Beyond Sight and Ferguson Enterprises. Also, the Tack-Tiles home pages. What are they? Lego-like devices to teach Braille!

January-1-1999: Happy New Year! This month's Other Visions by Orientation & Mobility Specialist Carol Inglis depicts the impact of weather on mobility in general and dog guides in particular. Check out "It's Snowing!"
