Beach Mobility: A Fun and Productive Lesson for a Hot Day (Issue 37) A mobility specialist discovers that his way to keep his students cool has unexpected benefits. More Important Than Sight (Issue 36) Brenda Trumble's story of her struggle with juvenile diabetes and the life changes that can result. I was Rehabilitated (Issue 35) Historically, recreational activities have played an important role in every culture. Specialists in the field of Recreation tell us that this is where we "fine tune" our social and survival skills in a safe, non-threatening environment. And a Merry Christmas to You, Too (Issue 34) We are presenting another story in the "Tom Brennan" series that we thought was appropriate now that the holidays are over. We've all had a bad Christmas, or two, and Tom shares his with us. Your Serve (Issue 33) We continue to bring you more stories from Tom Brennan, one of our most prolific writers. This one is more in keeping with his frightening Halloween story, showcasing Tom's...well, rather offbeat sense of humor. While we really enjoy his antics, we are somewhat relieved that he lives in another part of the country. Nice Puppy and Gift Ideas (Issue 32) Two articles for the price of one. First, we're bringing you another in the "Tom Brennan Series". Unlike last month's funny but ghoulish story, this is a simple heart-warming tale of success about a boy and his dog. Then, in keeping with the season, some shopping suggestions. Lights Out, Everybody (with apologies to Arch Oboler) (Issue 31) This is a little not-for-the-squeamish Halloween story by last month's author, Tom Brennan. We've heard through the grapevine that Tom has matured considerably since his college days. While befitting of the season, we strongly recommend that you don't try this at home! Yes, But Doctor...??? (Issue 30), by Tom Brennan, relates the experience of bilateral eneucleation (removal of both eyes) that was far more traumatic than it needed to be. Australia Travel Log, Part 3 (Issue 29) This is the last chapter of the "Dog Guide Logs" by Jenine Stanley. We truly want to thank Jenine for "loaning" us her writings and observations, and letting us share in her ground breaking travel adventures with Toby, her guide and companion. Australia Travel Log, Part 2 (Issue 28) The continuing saga of Jenine Stanley's trip to Australia spotlights the native wildlife. Australia Travel Log, Part 1 (Issue 27) More highlights of the dog-guide escapades from Jenine Stanley. This month she goes to Australia to present a professional paper at a conference. Hawaii Travel Log, Part 2 (Issue 26) The trip continues with poi, volcanoes, and the inevitable trip home. Hawaii Travel Log (Issue 25) A day by day journal of a trip to paradise to allow for an exemption for guide dogs from the state's quarantine laws. "I'melkam guzo": In other words, have a great trip! (Issue 24) A trip to Ethiopia presents a different view of society to a blind traveler. Not For Everyone (Issue 23) A new perspective on social nudism. David & Goliath? (Issue 22) The partially-sighted children show their stuff. Tahoe Speaks (Issue 21) A guide dog has its say. A Day in the Life of the Wife of a Man (Who Just Happens to be Totally Blind) (Issue 20) A wonderful account by an O&M Specialist of married life with a blind man. The Culture of Blindness (Issue 19) Does blindness have a "culture"? A subject of much debate is closely examined. The Language and Voices of Juan and Alexi (Issue 18) The unique experiences of being a bilingual O&M instructor working with two unforgettable children. Braille Literacy in America: A Student's View (Issue 17) The choice of Braille for blind children should be the accepted norm, not a teacher's idea of a last resort. The Little Miracle of Villa Tarranto (Issue 16) We are pleased to offer Mr. Jenkinsons second contribution (see: Dec. '98). We hope you enjoy his touching description of his trip to Italy. Right Place, Wrong Time (Issue 15) Extra care is required when fitting in between two worlds. Judo, the Ultimate Alternative Technique (Issue 14) Learning Judo gives one self-defense skills and much, much more. It's Snowing! (Issue 13) Weather affects all mobility, and impacts loyal dog guides in ways that are revealing. A Visit to the Hospital (Issue 12) A simple trip to the doctor can be anything but ordinary under the right conditions. The Power of Goalball (Issue 11) The onset of a disability in adulthood often brings with it the loss of more than just the affected ability. Ignorance is Expensive (Issue 10) Anecdotes on what can happen when you don't appear to be blind. The Harnessing of Love (Issue 9) Confidence and freedom are only two of the gifts a guide dog brings. Public Education (Issue 8) Education for the visually impaired is very important. But what about education for everyone else? The Top Ten List of What Motorists Shouldn't Do When They See a Blind Person (Issue 7) Teachers of the blind offer tips to motorists. A New Vision (Issue 6) For those in need of inspiration read Sue Martin's interesting and personal story of adjusting to vision loss.
