an astronomy site by a rank amateur, for rank amateurs

experts are welcome too
So what's the purpose of another astronomy site? Obviously to show what I have done, but, I'm also hoping to pass what I have learned on to you to help in your quest for the night sky. In the process, I hope to learn from you.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Steve Hollar. I've always had a passive interest in astronomy. My first telescope was a small, cheap reflector given to me by my parents when I was about 10 years old. It fascinated me for a while, but, being in the middle of a city, Long Beach, California, there wasn't a whole lot to look at due to washed out skies. The biggest reason for my sticking it in the closet and eventually getting rid of it all together was a general lack of interest by anyone else in my family. Fortunately a small spark burned that kept the interest alive, albeit being buried back in my mind.

Fast forward to 2007. I've been selling used books online for a number of years. One Saturday, in my rounds of yard sales, I made one final stop before calling it quits for the day. What a fateful stop that was. No books, but, stuck over in the corner of the driveway sat a box with a picture of a telescope on it. Upon closer examination I found it to be a Meade ETX 60AT. What caught my eye the most was the fact it had motor drives. I asked what they wanted for it and the lady said they had never used it and wanted me to offer. Almost jokingly I said $10. Amazingly, she accepted my offer. I was on my way to an extraordinary quest.

Below are links to the rest of the site. I'll be constantly building it, adding and subtracting as needed. I hope you enjoy, and, feel free to make comments and suggestions. Happy gazing.
