Life Purpose

LIFE PURPOSE STATEMENT

sunsetMy purpose in life is to grow in the knowledge of Christ, becoming more like Him, and to help my wife and children do the same, as well as all those the Lord brings me into contact with.  My goal is to always set my heart upon the Lord and to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead in ministry and life, accepting the challenges with excitement and joy. (How to accept Christ)

At this time in my journey, the Lord has laid it upon my heart to help oversee the administrative aspects of ministry as Executive Pastor in the local church.  I want to help the church improve it's ability to communicate internally and publically, to help the staff to develop their ministries, to create a volunteer friendly environment where people can serve according to their gifts and their passions, and to adapt and create a church campus that is safe, effective, aesthetically pleasing, and honoring to God.

God led me to the local church to be a catalyst in simultaneously meeting the worship needs of the congregation and the individual needs of musicians and engineers, emphasizing the nature of music as a tool of worship.  In 1989 I surrendered my career plans, financial goals, musical ambitions, and personal endeavors to serve Christ at Cornerstone.

In the last few years, God has laid upon my heart to assist with church administrative responsibilities.  I sensed God's plan for me change, and I have taken on the new role of Executive Pastor. This includes supervising Facilities Management, Grounds, and Event Set-up personnel, as well as the Business Manager and Office Manager.  I went back to school and over the last five years earned two advanced degrees (M.Min., D.B.S.) in Christian Administration. I continue to learn administrative and management skills through attending professional seminars. My future plans include study and testing to become California certified in Human Resources.

THEOLOGY OF MINISTRY

In order to go beyond the temporal and impact the world with changes that are eternal, true worship must be our first priority.  Almost everything we do in life is an act of worship to something — self, greed, money, success, pleasure, etc.  Without the power and control of the Holy Spirit in our lives we are powerless to benefit the Kingdom of God.  So how do we receive that filling of God’s Spirit?  When we worship God in spirit and in truth we are filled with the Holy Spirit’s enabling power, and our minds and hearts are renewed.

Ephes. 5:18-19 NIV
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. [How?] Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

We are filled (controlled) by the Spirit when we worship God.  As people experience God’s filling on Sundays, singing and making music to the Lord, and then begin to worship Him with other areas of their life, through their service, time, money and talents, they will begin to experience the fruit of the Spirit while doing God’s will in more and more areas of life.

Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

My purpose is for God to use me to help believers and nonbelievers experience God’s empowering presence as they offer their lives as a living sacrifice, experiencing the love and grace of God the Father, the forgiveness and salvation of God the Son, and the power and guidance of God the Holy Spirit.
